The Clinical Research Centre (CRC) of the University of Surrey launched earlier this month. The CRC has grown out of the Human Psychopharmacology Research Unit and is located at Egerton Road, adjacent to the Postgraduate Medical School (PGMS) and the Royal Surrey County Hospital (RSCH). The Centre is building on its strengths in sleep and Central Nervous System research, and because of its close proximity to both PGMS and RSCH has plans on expanding its interest into new therapeutic areas. The CRC is currently carrying out studies with a number of the major pharmaceutical companies and is talking to others about starting new studies next year. With 12 of the best equipped sleep laboratories in the world, and a well equipped 12- bed ward, the CRC is well placed to become a major centre for clinical research in the UK. Dr Brian Gennery, Director of the CRC comments: "I am delighted to be leading such a strong team of professional clinical researchers in our state-of-the-art facility. I am sure that work done here in the future will be of benefit for people in need of new medical treatments."
